Welcome
Fibre Channel is an ideal solution for IT professionals who need reliable, cost-effective
information storage and delivery at fast speeds. With development starting in 1988 and ANSI
standard approval in 1994, Fibre Channel is a mature, safe solution for 1Gb, 2Gb, 4Gb, 8Gb and
16Gb communications, providing an ideal solution for fast, reliable mission-critical information
storage and retrieval for today's data centers. Another new Fibre Channel interface
development
is Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE), which leverages the millions of man-hours of Fibre Channel
upper layer management and driver development and its extensive installed base, now shipping
at 10GFCoE and coming soon industry-wide at 40GFCoE and 100GFCoE.

FCIA Demo at SNW Fall
We have another great demo planned for this
year's Fall SNW...
The FCIA will be a Platinum Sponsor at this Fall's
Storage Networking World (SNW) 2011 event in Orlando, Florida commencing next week on October 10.
During SNW, FCIA's booth in the Expo exhibition area will showcase the reality and availability of
16Gbps Fibre Channel (FC) under the theme "The Speed You Need for Big Data and Flexibility",
validating the power-to-scale, power-to-evolve and power-to-virtualize in the data center. Eleven
industry vendor sponsor members of FCIA will be exhibiting products capable of supporting 16Gbps
FC as well as 10GbE Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE) as part of a live Storage Area Network (SAN)
interoperability demonstration in the FCIA booth. We'll be in booth #410 come visit us!

Recent Fibre Channel News
- Fibre Channel in the Near- and Long- Term
"The death of Fibre Channel has been a perennial prediction in networking circles ever since the
first bit of storage data traversed the Ethernet....the simple fact is that there is a lot to look
forward to in Fibre Channel, particularly as it transitions into converged I/O infrastructures."

- Fibre Channel will dominate FCoE, 10G iSCSI for years, research says
The recent report from LightCounting entitled "Network Storage: Several Years Before FCoE/10Gb
iSCSI Threaten Fibre Channel," allows its title to pretty much give away the ending. But if you
follow the plotline anyway, the report promises some insightful information about 10-GbE in data
centers and storage networks, including 10GBase-T. LightCounting's vice president and senior
datacom analyst Kimball Brown notes that while 10-GbE is 'finally taking off,' after a decade, but
adds that even four years from now Fibre Channel over Ethernet and iSCSI combined will not match
Fibre Channel in terms of port deployments."

About FCIA
The Fibre Channel Industry Association (FCIA) is a
non-profit international organization whose sole
purpose is to act as the independent technology
and marketing voice of the Fibre Channel industry.
We are committed to helping member organizations
promote and position Fibre Channel, and to
providing a focal point for Fibre Channel information,
standards advocacy, and education.
Today, Fibre Channel technology continues to be
the data center standard for storage area networks
and enterprise storage, with more than 80 percent
market share.
